Pingaleshwar Archaological Site, Kamrup

The Pingaleswar Archaeological site has evidence of a stone temple datable to early medieval period. Over the foundation of the stone temple a modern temple has been built. Stone temple sculptures, fragments of door jamb, pillar capital, carved panels of sculptures depicting figures playing musical instruments, dancing figures, lotus design, erotic art forms and other temple relics and a stone inscription exists at the site.  Stylistically the culptures are datable to C. 10th-11th C.E. A site museum and a sculptural gallery have been set up here with sculptures and temple relics. Siva is worshipped here as Pingaleswar.
