Assam State Museum, Guwahati

The Kamarupa Anusandhana Samiti (The Assam Research Society) which was the pioneer organization in the field of historical and antiquarian studies of Assam, has established the Assam State Museum in 1940, which was formally inaugurated by the then Governor of Assam, Sir Robert Neil Reid.

Rai Bahadur K.L. Barua’s untiring efforts were greatly responsible for the establishment of the Museum. The first building of the Museum was constructed with the money received from public donation and Government grant. Rai Bahadur Naupat Rai Kedia of Dibrugarh had donated a handsome amount for the construction of the museum building. Till the year 1953 it was a non-Government establishment, after which it was taken over by the State Government.
